Constitution

Article I-NAME

The name of this organization shall be the Dhaka University Graduate Zoologist Association (DUGZA).


Article II-PURPOSE

The purpose of this association shall be:

1) To stimulate among its members a continuance of interest of the zoology graduates in Dhaka University.

2) To support involvements in student service functions of the zoology graduates, providing expertise and opportunities to current and prospective students.

3) To furnish an avenue through which membership may become intimately familiar with the problems and progress of Dhaka University Zoology Graduates.

4) To cooperate with Department officials in helping to meet the needs of the graduates for support from public and private sources.

5) To assist in meeting the professional needs of the zoology graduates from Dhaka University.


Article III-MEMBERSHIP

Those considered eligible for membership in the Association are:

1) All zoology graduates (former and current) from the Dhaka University Zoology Department.

2) Past and present faculty of the Department of Zoology, Dhaka University.

Each person in the categories listed above will be automatically considered as a member of the Association unless he or she specifies to the contrary. Other persons who have demonstrated an interest DUGZA also may become members by invitation of the Board of Governors of the Association or upon application to and with approval of a majority of this Board.


Article IV-GOVERNING AUTHORITIES

The governing body of the Association shall consist of a Board of Governors of twenty members. Among them fifteen members shall be elected to the Board and serve for two years. The other five members will be elected each year. A nominating committee shall be appointed by the Board each year and will submit a slate of at least five candidates to the Board for confirmation. At the request of the Board and upon recommendation by the nominating committee, additional members may be included for consideration for general Board positions. The Chairman of the Department of Zoology, Dhaka University will be the head of the Advisory Committee of the Association. The Advisory Committee shall be formed by representatives of the Department of Zoology as well as by the prominent zoologists in various institutions. The Advisory Committee shall be consisted of fifteen members. The role of the Advisory Committee shall be to assist the DUGZA Board of Governors in various aspects. However, all the decisions of DUGZA shall be made by the Board of Governors. If a member of the Board of Governors has failed to attend 60% of the Board's meetings during his or her first twelve months term, the board shall determine if the member is eligible to continue to serve on the Board. An inactive member will be replaced through the Nominating Committees submission of the name of a new member for Board confirmation. Members serving in an ex-officio capacity shall not be subject to these attendance requirements. The Board of Governors shall fill all vacancies occurring in the officership of the Association.


Article V-MEETINGS

General Meetings of the Association shall be held at such times and places as the Board of Governors may designate, but at least once each year. Proper notice of meetings shall be given to all members. According to the need of the DUGZA, the governing authority may organize meetings at any time.


Article VI-FUNDS

The Association is empowered to raise funds to be utilized at its discretion. Additional funds for operation of the Association may be made through negotiations with the Department of Zoology, Dhaka University. The Secretary/Treasurer will be responsible for management of all funds accrued by the Association.


Article VII-AMENDMENTS

The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members of the Association attendance at any meeting. Amendments may be proposed by the Board of Governors or by written petition from ten members. Proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing to all members, at their last known address, at least four weeks prior to the meeting. Such amendments shall become effective when approved by the Board of Governors of the DUGZA.
